in late 2011, the very stuffy and somewhat boring Grace Hotel in Rosebank closed shop! the hotel was bought by Tsogo Sun and on 9th July 2012, the new and trendy 54 on Bath opened its doors to the public. i popped in about a week ago to check out the new hotel... the staff were very kind to take me around (only thing i didn't get to see were the rooms). i absolutely love it! there isn't much of a structural change from the old hotel, but the design, decor and finishings are definitely very modern and appealing. i love the black and white checkered marbled floors in the restaurant, now called Level Four. the restaurant overlooks a well manicured garden and is perfect for breakfast, lunch, a romantic dinner, 1st date, or just a night out with the girls (or boys). the bar area is very trendy and chic, but has very limited seating capacity. there's also a 'pool deck' but the views are not the best- you see building roof tops (and construction sites for now) and the space is very limited as well. overall, 54 on Bath is a lovely hotel and will soon be the new hangout spot for jozi peeps! can't wait to try their food:-)
