i love me some chuck taylor...

hello darls!

soooo, i have been coveting a pair of white leather hi top chuck taylor's (or better known as all stars) for some time now... but right now i'm totally loving the stud and zip trend! i love chuck taylors because they work for both men and women and have that 'effortless chic' look about them. pair them with good quality boyfriend or slim leg/fitted jeans or chino's, a white oversized shirt or t-shirt/vest, leather/denim or baseball jacket and you are good to go!
recently, renowned fashion designers such as john varvatos, missoni, stussy and others, have collaborated with converse all star and created designer chuck taylors and jack purcell's for men and women! in my view, start with the original and classic canvas style and build up your collection with other designs. there's a chuck taylor for everyone!

hello my lovelies and happy friday (13th... eeeek!)

the BMW International Polo Series, against a touring international team, is played in august each year. the first test (always on a sunday) is played at shongweni, near durban and the second test (played a week later) is played in johannesburg. this year, the polo has a new home and is moving from inanda club to the spacious waterfall polo park in sunninghill. the new venue is believed to be stunning and beautifully laid out and consists of three polo fields (2 of which will be used for parking) and many other facilities. for more information on ticket prices, programme of events and directions to the venue, please visit www.sapolo.org.za

this event will be the perfect time to showcase spring fashion... so i've put together my ESSENTIAL ITEMS for the polo and have sourced some pictures from the very prestigious veuve clicquot polo series held at the liberty state park in new jersey NY, which took place on the 2nd of june 2012. enjoy!

tumi's polo essentials...

1. pretty dress/skirt
2. ankle length cigarette pants/jeans in a nude or bright colour
3. cute embellished or leather shorts (for those with lovely pins)
4. a pretty blouse or top (tribal and scarf prints will be hot this spring/summer)
5. wide brimmed hat/fedora
6. sunglasses (round or cat eye will be trending this spring, but you can't go wrong with classics and aviators)
7. light scarf (plain or in a bold print)
8. comfortable but stylish shoes (i'm coveting a pair of navy wellies with a yellow bow from joules evedon). ladies, please please please DO NOT wear pencil heels! walking on grass with heels digging into the ground just looks silly, BUT if you must wear heels, they must have a chunky block heel or rather opt for wedges!
9. sling bag to keep your bits and bobs
10. a stylish leather or canvas tote to hold everything else (small umbrella/light jacket/picnic blanket/camera...etc
11. sunscreen (spf 50 and up)
12. small brolly
13. hydrating facial mist (vichy, evian and crabtree & evelyn are my best)
14. wet wipes
15. picnic basket with yummy treats and beverages :easy to eat mini sarmies, crackers/cheese...etc/mixed berries and grapes (tip: freeze them to keep them nice and cool), water & juice (tip: also freeze to keep cool for longer) and of course, lots and lots of champagne!

out with the old... in with the new = 54 on Bath

in late 2011, the very stuffy and somewhat boring Grace Hotel in Rosebank closed shop! the hotel was bought by Tsogo Sun and on 9th July 2012, the new and trendy 54 on Bath opened its doors to the public. i popped in about a week ago to check out the new hotel... the staff were very kind to take me around (only thing i didn't get to see were the rooms). i absolutely love it! there isn't much of a structural change from the old hotel, but the design, decor and finishings are definitely very modern and appealing. i love the black and white checkered marbled floors in the restaurant, now called Level Four. the restaurant overlooks a well manicured garden and is perfect for breakfast, lunch, a romantic dinner, 1st date, or just a night out with the girls (or boys).  the bar area is very trendy and chic, but has very limited seating capacity. there's also a 'pool deck' but the views are not the best- you see building roof tops (and construction sites for now) and the space is very limited as well. overall, 54 on Bath is a lovely hotel and will soon be the new hangout spot for jozi peeps! can't wait to try their food:-)

black and gold!

hello my lovelies... it's been a minute - eeerrr, make that 5 months! winter is my absolute favourite season (mostly for the luxurious clothes AND given that i'm not excatly a skinny chick... it's the only time i can wear short dresses and skirts with stockings<<---- winning).
my favorite colour in the whole entire universe is black... why? because it's beautiful, classy and doesn't date, so even if you buy a high fashion item, if it's black and good quality, it can last you longer than 1 season= value for money.
this year (and probably for a while after) my absolute favourite metal is gold... i just love it! why? because it's beautiful, classy and regal! ok, here are some of my favourite black and gold items that will see you through many winters. enjoy!
